I believe in the power of music. I believe in the power of music to heal, inspire, move , create, love, educate, nourish, cultivate, instruct, improve, enlighten, delight, soothe, shine ... ... and the list goes on and on. For eight years I had the honor of sitting on the board of directors of the Grand County Blues Society, a grass-root, non-profit music organization based about 30 miles due west of Boulder, high in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. At first, the live shows we sponsored at Smokin’ Moe’s Ribhouse and Saloon in Winter Park persuaded adults into a lean Winter Park nightlife for dancing, friends, libations, and to hear some of the best blues bands in the country. Our organization blossomed. We grew to fulfill our mission statement, which also called for music education.
Free guitar lessons at the library
We started a Blue in the School program, bringing inspired musicians to the schools to educate every Grand County child about the blues. We started the Check Out the Music program (which won an award from the Colorado Library Association) placing musical instruments and educational materials in all Grand County libraries, available for check-out to all Grand County citizens, children and adults alike. Also in the libraries, free guitar lesson were made available to the youngest music fans. Our music adventure then led us to create the Blue Star Connection, providing musical instruments to children with life threatening illness. This program has donated musical instruments to individual children around the globe and funded 10 hospital programs across the United States. So I have been witness to the power of music, not just to make his foot tap or her hip shake, but also to deliver on all the verbs listed above and change our world. ~ Bill Boecklen

I tried to move my whole text and graphics document over from Word and I could not get the photos to come with it. I am trying to download the photos through the Wiki but I am having a little trouble. The audio was done with on GarageBand. Reading the text was many takes edited together. The guitar part was me and and I fade the volume in some places but the track is just an un-edited clip from a larger track I recorded in GarageBand.
